This custom Pussy Cap was ordered by an attentive and loving Michael who knew just what his wife wanted for Valentine's Day. The last of this silver prize-winning alpaca fleece from Lisa Souza was handspun furry and thick and is coupled here with a strand of natural grey Peruvian alpaca for a deliciously squishy, soft and warm beanie. Accenting in the band is Lisa's natural jet black handspun baby alpaca along with her handpainted pink Bombyx silk and a strand of pink Italian wool.

Most of this cap is crocheted from a shimmering silk & mohair yarn that originated in New Zealand and was hand-dyed here in California by fiber artist Lisa Souza. The burnished gold and South Pacific blues work really well together and are complilmented by a natural black handspun baby alpaca yarn, also from Lisa Souza. This is a lighter cap that would be ideal for year-round wear in many climates around the country. It'll still keep you warm but allow your head to breathe at the same time. Roomy, comfortable, soft and lightweight, this is a Pussy Cap with a lot of flair and style for someone who'll welcome the attention it'll generate.

For the first Pussy Cap of 2006 I crocheted up something pretty special. I took a strand of natural grey superfine Peruvian alpaca and coupled it with a strand of Kristen Worthington's natural silvery white, handspun angora fur. Accenting are three bands of natural black superfine Peruvian alpaca. The effect as you can see is stunning - a beautiful range of natural greys, silvers, whites and black. In addition to its luscious softness there's an inherent warmth in this cap that will defy even the coldest of temperatures. Angora fur and alpaca are both 7 to 10 times warmer than wool and coupled as they are in this cap along with tighter stitches insures unparalleled warmth and protection. A classic beanie cap that looks and feels absolutely outrageously wonderful on.

I'd been saving a little bit of this rare and beautiful baby alpaca yarn for a long time and finally got around to making myself a Pussy Cap out of it. This is the last of the yarn that Lisa Souza handspun from Risa's first shearing which produced an exquisitely soft and natural reddish brown baby alpaca fleece. There wasn't enough to do an entire cap so I added a natural dark brown alpaca yarn that was handspun by Marsha Berkemeier and it turned out to be the perfect compliment. Finally, my Risa Pussy Cap!

Natural dark brown alpaca handspun by Marsha Berkemeier makes up the body of this handsome Pussy Cap. The alpaca is spun extra thick and furry and I kept the stitches tight so this will be a very warm cap. Bands of bracken-rusty green and steely grey millspun yarns from Peru` are separated by a handspun natural jet-black baby alpaca that was handspun by Lisa Souza. I doubled the yarns throughout for extra thickness and warmth, so this is the perfect cap for cold days, especially if you have a bald or shaved head. I don't know that I've ever seen color take on as much magic as in this spectacular one-of-a-kind yarn from Lisa Souza's Rare Treasures Collection. This is hand-dyed, handspun Wensleydale wool and it absorbs color in a way that no other animal fiber does, creating rich, saturated colors that absolutely dazzle. Wensleydale wool doesn't quite have the softness of merino but what it lacks in softness it way more than makes up for in sheen, brilliance and drape. I would recommend this Pussy Cap for someone with hair rather than a bald or shaved head. The fit is generous and comfortable with a ton of length for wearing it low to the eyes and below the ears or pulled back on the head for a wonderful drape at the crown. This is what I call the Souza Sampler because it's crocheted from five of Lisa Souza's hand-dyed, handspun yarns. Starting at the bottom they are: pure Mongollian cashmere in browns and blacks, a blend of cashmere & silk in blues, a blend of merino & angora in browns, a blend of merino & silk in greens and a dash of Wensleydale wool at the top in teals and greens. The colors all came together so nicely and their styles of spinning so complimentary that this Pussy Cap ended up being a lot more than the sum of its parts. A classic beanie cap style and fit that really looks amazing on. And yep, the cashmere is right down there on your forehead and ears where you can enjoy it the most.

This is a really really cool looking cap on and I can guarantee you that if it doesn't sell within a few days I'm keeping it for myself. Yep, I really really will this time. I absolutely LOVE this Pussy Cap. Hover over the pictures for more details. We've got a lot going on here - a beautiful red angora fur yarn that Lisa Souza handpainted and handspun alternates with her hand-dyed Italian millspun cashmere in gold. Accenting is Lisa's stunning handspun Silver Sage alpaca. For the inside of the cap I doubled a super soft Peruvian alpaca yarn in natural brown and then finished everything off by repeating the band at the top of the cap. Somehow all of these different yarns really came together and created what I think is one of the most unique and great looking caps in the collection. The fit is snug but not tight and damn if it isn't just a totally cool looking cap on.

I doubled the yarns all the way throughout and crocheted them on a small hook for extra thickness, extra warmth and extra protection. A small stripe of browns & blacks makes its way diagonally across the pale tans & greys of the body and ends perfectly nestled into the gathered top. It's called South Pacific and it really is evocative of the colors of the Pacific. In alternating rows we have a natural ivory angora fur that originated with Helle's angora rabbits in Denmark and was also handspun into yarn by Lisa. The cashmere with the angora is just too wonderful for words. This is an easy fitting Pussy Cap with lots of give, lots of softness and a show-stopping pallet of blues. This gorgeous Pussy Cap has been in the catalog for awhile but the picture wasn't very good and it just didn't do it justice. So I rephotographed it and now we have a picture that really shows this beautiful Pussy Cap for what it is. Natural silver angora fur handspun by Lisa Souza has been joined by a jet-black thread of cashmere as well as a beautiful Japanese purple yarn blended from cashmere, kid lambswool & silk. This Pussy Cap is wonderfully soft, thick and supple with a wide band and a snug but not tight fit. Equally beautiful worn back on the head with a drape at the crown. Beautiful hand-dyed yarns from Lisa Souza made this Pussy Cap irresistable to my cousin Shanna who bought it on the spot when it was less than two inches big! She and I both agreed that it was perfect for her red-headed daughter's 21st birthday. This is Lisa's Mohmbassa merino wool and a gorgeous soft mohair in subtle shades of gold. Problem is, the hand-dyed, handspun Wensleydale wool fibers, even though blended with baby alpaca, weren't soft enough for wearing next to the skin.
