Handmade Crocheted Hats and Beanies from Pussy Cap
Handmade Crocheted Hats and Beanies from Pussy Cap
Four beautiful yarns here for this elegant and oh so feminine Pussy Cap. Handpainted Koigu Merino in shades of muted lavender, white Italian mohair and a shimmering white strand of domestic silk & cotton have all been crocheted together as one. A sensuous, double-crocheted band of aubergine handspun Chilean angora fur adds the perfect finishing touch.

Inspired by her recent visit to New Zealand and with memories of Milford Sound dancing in her head, Lisa Souza handpainted this cashmere & merino blend in shades of teal, green & creamy lime and then handspun it into this richly textured yarn. I worked it up on a smaller hook and the effect is really nice. Lots of stretch here for any size head in a very soft, comfortable cap.

$120.00  Cap #207-10  Sold
Deep and mysterious like the waters of the deepest oceans, this beautiful Pussy Cap was created from the joining of three yarns crocheted together as one. First is a strand of natural black alpaca - superfine of course. Next up is a soft yak/merino blend from the states in deep navy blue. And finally, one of the rare times that I use yarn anymore that isn't a natural animal fiber, is this thin but highly textured strand of rayon/cotton in a pallet of pale blues. The three yarns all worked beautifully together to create a rich melange of blues and blacks and a really thick, soft and warm Pussy Cap that has a turned up band and a traditional beanie cap fit.

$100.00 - Cap #7491  Sold
Well, here she is: the rare bird that I said I would probably never put up for sale on the website. I just couldn't help myself - it's too beautiful not to have told a little lie over. (Ever known anybody like that?) The white yarn is my signature Samoyed Fur yarn from Canada and the brown is a heavily textured Italian wool that I just love. So I guess this is sort of a twist on the Mush Puppy Pussy Caps. The two yarns are absolutely gorgeous together and the Samoyed fur has already started blooming. This swirling style takes forever to crochet and I just didn't think I could charge enough for it to make it worth my while to do it. But I'm putting it out there anyway because it's such a special Pussy Cap. And I'm keeping the price reasonable considering how long it took me to make it and how pricey these yarns are. This is a thick, downy soft and toasty warm cap that's looking for a a really cool person to give it a home on their head. Roll your cursor over the images for more views.

This Peruvian millspun yarn is a blend of 75% angora fur and 25% wool for softness, warmth and durability. Accenting the red yarn that forms the basis for the cap is a band of black triangles crocheted directly into the cap rather than ontop of it. It's a simple look but a nice one for a traditional beanie cap fit and style with lots of length for wearing low to the eyes and below the ears.

One of my favorite Italian millspun yarns is this black virgin wool that has bursts of color appearing randomly throughout the length of the yarn. Since wool can be a problem for some people I added a band of a really soft merino & cashmere yarn to this cap for extra comfort on the forehead and ears. Even though this tan yarn from Italy is mostly merino, you'd swear feeling it that it was pure cashmere. Two unique yarns from Italian mills that make for a classic beanie cap that's handsome, warm and great looking on. Hover over the images for more views.

$100.00  Cap #279  Sold
Finally, a new cap in my signature Mush Puppy Pussy Cap collection. This is a really wonderful yarn, spun in Canada from the fibers of the Samoyed sled dog. A little bit of merino wool has been spun into it for strength and elasticity. But really all you're going to experience here is the Samoyed Fur, which within a few wearings gets an amazing bloom on it and almost completely obliterates the crochet stitches. It's amazing and it's beautiful and it's very very warm and protective. Accenting here in the two bands is an exquisite handpainted, handspun pure angora fur yarn from my buddy Lisa Souza. It's from her Rare Treasures Collection and is called Petroglyph - a stunning and subtle pallet of bracken greens and browns. The angora fur will bloom as much as the Samoyed fur and as such is the perfect compliment. This is a stunning cap on and it only gets more beautiful with each wearing.

$120.00 - Cap #7521  Sold
A play on a 50s boy's t-shirt kind of a thing? I don't know, I kept seeing a vintage polo shirt while I was putting this Pussy Cap together. It's all the same yarn: a wonderfully soft blend of alpaca & wool from England that unfortunately has been discontinued. I'm using up the last few skeins of it now that I'd been hoarding and having a lot of fun with it. This is a really nicely shaped and styled cap with a generous turned up band that will give you added warmth and protection around your ears and forehead. Definitely a cold weather cap with a comfortable but snug to the head fit. And of course it's super soft!

$100.00 - Cap #7492  Sold
Been getting lots of oohs and aahs over this cap - maybe it's the really nice shade of green in the angora/wool yarn from Peru`. Or maybe it's the transition from that yarn to another subtle shade of pale green yarn that's a blend of silk and merino wool? Or maybe it's just the very tiny thread of cotton & rayon that has all those cool little cocoons in it. I don't know, maybe it's the combination of all three yarns together that makes this cap work so well. In any event, it's a big, roomy Pussy Cap that looks really great on and has all the softness and warmth you could ever hope for in a beanie.

$100.00  Cap #271  Sold
I'm not usually a big fan of pinks but this super-thick and super-soft merino from Italy has some of the nicest pinks in it I've ever seen and together with a wide range of other beautiful colors has made for a pretty amazing Four Corners Pussy Cap. I added two strands of a millspun yarn from Canada that's blended from yak down and cashmere in their natural ivory colors. And boy is this yarn nice with the Italian merino. This is probably the biggest cap I've ever made. It's soft and warm and makes a bold statement on. I love it and I think you will too.

$140.00 - Cap #6451  Sold
The thicker coral colored yarn that you see here is a millspun blend of cashmere and mohair from Italy. The color is beautiful and the softness perfect. I coupled it with a thin garnet silk yarn that almost hides but definitely adds depth and interest to the color of the coral cashmere. Accenting in the band are two yarns crocheted as one: a maroon mohair from Italy and a whimsical yarn from France that's spun from a whole bunch of kinds of fibers including silk, rayon, cotton and wool. The colors are strong and bright but sophisticated at the same time; just the way I like my brighter colors. A classic beanie cap fit that will most likely be wearable year-round in cooler areas.

$100.00 - Cap #7429  Sold
Softer than soft Llama yarn in its natural silver color, handspun by Marsha Berkemeier alternates with a pairing of handpainted angora fur + a cotton/rayon yarn, both in a pallet of rich, subtle pastels. Softness, warmth and understated whimsy are in abundant supply here in this thick and roomy Pussy Cap that fits low to the eyebrows and below the ears.

$100.00  Cap #7528  Sold
I really like the way the angora fur yarn here swirled its way up the body of the cap. Sometimes the patterning, which is often totally out of my control, just works out perfectly and this is a good example of what you get when it happens. The black yarn is an Italian merino in a boucle style and the furry yarn is of course a blend of angora fur and wool that's been hand dyed. This is a thick, very very soft and classically styled beanie cap that will bring you years and years of warmth and stylish protection.

$100.00 - Cap #7542  Sold
I coupled two beautiful millspun yarns for the body of this cap - a golden blend of silk & merino that was hand-dyed by Lisa Souza and a gorgeous cashmere & silk blend in olive green from Japan. The resulting fabric is luxurious to the touch and beautifully subtle to the eye. Accenting in the band is an Italian millspun merino boucle` in olive green and a touch of Lisa Souza's El Dorado yarn in pale gold. Perfect for year-round comfort in any kind of weather, this Pussy Cap will fit close to the head without squeezing it and has lots of length for covering your forehead and ears with downy softness.

$100.00 - Cap #6409  Sold
Four amazing yarns from Lisa Souza have been worked up together for this Pussy Cap. For the gold part of this cap I coupled two millspun yarns that Lisa hand-dyed - one of them is a blend of cashmere & silk and the other a blend of silk & kid mohair. Together they make for a truly sensuous feel. Accenting in the band is Lisa's handspun, handpainted angora fur yarn called Olive Tones and it's bordered on top and bottom with her handspun baby alpaca in natural black. A generous fit with softness and warmth to spare, this is true luxury both in the way it feels on and the way it looks.

$120.00 - Cap #6380  Sold
What could be more exciting to get things started for this new season than a decadently luxurious Pussy Cap crocheted from cashmere and angora fur? Lisa Souza's handspun, handpainted cashmere in a colorway called Painted Desert alternates with a handpainted blend of angora fur and wool in browns and pale golds. Gathered at the top instead of rounded, this Pussy Cap has a wide turned up band and is guaranteed to leave you with a grin on your face that will likely never leave it! This is one of the world's finest cashmeres and you'll know that the minute your hands touch it. A snug fit with all of the warmth and softness you could ever hope for in a gorgeous beanie that wants you to give it a home.

$140.00 - Cap #7535  Sold
A deep coal-black alpaca and silk yarn got together here with a Peruvian tweed alpaca in browns & tans and the result is a thick, substantial and ultra-warm Pussy Cap that's as handsome as it is protective. I promise you, you ain't gonna have cold ears with this puppy on your head. The big turned up band will make sure of that. This is a gorgeous cap with a nice comfortable fit and more softness than you'll ever know what to do with. Looking for something special? This is it.

$120.00 - Cap #7426  Sold
Ordinarily wool yarns aren't soft enough for Pussy Caps but this stunning wool yarn from Japan is a big exception. Spun in a curly boucle` style, the wool is soft enough for even the most sensitive skin. The colors transition imperceptibly along a range of greys, blues, tans and blacks and alternate with rows of black baby alpaca & silk. This is a thick, substantial cap with an easy comfortable fit and it looks pretty amazing on too!

Just to mix things up a litttle bit here's a totally new Pussy Cap that's as good looking as it is practical. I coupled Lisa Souza's handspun, natural tan merino wool with a silky black Italian mohair for the bulk of the cap and then decided to have some fun with it.
The top of the cap is heavily pleated and topped off with a plume of red kettle-dyed virgin wool from Uruguay that's echoed again in the band. This is a thick, warm and durable Pussy Cap that's perfect for you skiers or boarders because of its flair and because it'll stay put on your head and keep you warm. As you can see from the picture it's absolutely sensational on. Hover over the images with your cursor for more views.

Lots of soft, beautiful yarns have gone into this playful Pussy Cap. For the body I used two strands of Koigu merino wool in blue and white that were handpainted by Maie and Taiu Landra of Ontario, Canada. Accenting in the wavy band is a natural white handspun angora fur that's trimmed on both sides with a blue merino boucle` from Italy. The white angora fur is repeated in the trim of the cap and accented with a shimmering pale blue silk from Italy. And finally a tuft of the angora fur just for fun. This is a slightly smaller cap but one that has a ton of stretch to it because of the Koigu merino. Soft, warm and wonderful on.

A match made in heaven: coupled throughout are a natural brown Peruvian alpaca and a millspun Italian cashmere handpainted by Lisa Souza in a rich pallet of burnt oranges, blues and blacks. Accenting is a band of natural black Peruvian alpaca for a lightweight, snug fitting beanie whose rich colors and luxurious softness are what Pussy Caps are all about.

$100.00  Cap #164  Sold
This richly textured Pussy Cap in black and olive green combines two Italian boucle` yarns, each millspun from the world's softest, pure merino wools. Lightweight and beautiful on with plenty of length to turn up a band if you want, this is a cap that can be worn and enjoyed all year round.

$100.00 - Cap #7495  Sold
This custom Four Corners Pussy Cap has become a prototype for a new kind of style that I'm working on. It's going to be awhile before it's available but I'm really liking where it's headed. You'll notice how different the band is than anything I've done before. This cap, which is already sold, is crocheted from Lisa Souza's Fat Bunny yarn that's a blend of angora fur, merino and a tiny bit of nylon. Lisa hand-dyed it in this amazing pallet of greens and called it Olive Tones. It's big and bold and beautiful and promises to have a few siblings somewhere down the road.

$140.00 - Cap #7556  Sold
You want cashmere??? I'll give you cashmere. This millspun cashmere from Italy was so beautiful I decided to double the strands and go for broke. Yep, two strands of this ultra-soft and beautiful dove-grey cashmere make for the thickest cashmere Pussy Cap I've ever made. Accenting in the band is the same luxuriously doubled cashmere yarn in black. This is a big cap and a thick cap. It gives you what you want with cashmere's softness and then delivers warmth with its super thick fabric. And it's only going to get softer, thicker and more beautiful as you wear it and wash it. It's the ultimate - how could you not???

$180.00 - Cap #6422  Sold
I crocheted two yarns together as one in this colorful Pussy Cap. First is a multi-color handpainted blend of mohair and silk from Lisa Souza and second is a natural silvery-grey angora fur that was handspun by Kristen Worthington. The angora will start to bloom as soon as you first wear the cap and eventually will give you a really glorious bloom that will make the cap softer, warmer and more beautiful than ever. An easy-fitting Pussy Cap that'll give you years of comfort and warmth. LIke the look of fur? Give this one a few days and it'll be yours.

$100.00 - Cap #6479  Sold
This beautiful matching Four Corners Pussy Cap and 12ft Pussy Tail were a custom order for my buddy Richard. The silvery-white yarn you're seeing is a natural colored handspun angora fur from Kristen Worthington and alternating with it through both the cap and tail is a gorgeous boucle` yarn from Italy that's a blend of merino wool and silk. Extraordinary softness and warmth in a show-stopping cap & tail for a guy who's going to get a ton of wear out of both.

Cap & Tail #7564  Sold
This scrumptious angora fur and merino blend yarn was millspun and then hand-dyed by Lisa Souza in a rich melange of pink, raspberry, rust, periwinkle and eggplant. How's that for a color description? This is a new yarn for my Pussy Caps and I know you're going to love it as much as I do. It's soft, it's thick, it's warm and it's really durable because of a little bit of nylon that's been added to the blend. Perfect for a beanie cap that you'll love wearing and that'll be around forever! Three bands of French angora fur in a beautiful complimentary colorway finish things off nicely here. Big and roomy, this is perfect for anyone with lots of hair or who likes the look of a larger cap. It's not a sloppy fit though - it'll for sure stay put.

Pure Peruvian baby alpaca from top to bottom in this thick and ethereally soft Pussy Cap. In addition to the grey that you see nestled in there is this rich teal that is probably slightly bluer than what you're seeing on your monitor. In other words, a true teal. Alpaca is many times warmer than wool and a lot more durable as well. For someone who can't wear wool next to their skin alpaca is the perfect alternative. With no lanolin and virtually no scratch factor at all, baby alpaca feels as good if not better next to the skin than cashmere. This is a big cap with a comfortable fit and lots of length for wearing down below the ears.

I coupled two amazingly soft millspun yarns from Canada for this tan & white Pussy Cap. Natural tan baby camel down is accented with a natural white Samoyed yarn and together they make for a wonderfully soft and warm cap in a classic beanie cap style. A little bit of heaven on your head with this one.

$100.00 - Cap #329  Sold
The tweedy looking yarn you see here was custom spun for me by Gayle Paige from pure yak down in three of its natural colors: white, grey & brown. Yak is wonderfully soft and insulating and is a great choice for wearing next to the skin. The yak down transitions up to a millspun yarn from England that's a blend of alpaca & wool in chocolate brown. This is a thick, warm cap that fits close to the head in a traditional beanie cap style. My first thought when I tried it on was, "Wow, this looks amazing. I love it." And of course I wanted to keep it for myself. This is a unique yak down yarn that's been beautifully spun and it worked up into a really nice Pussy Cap.

This is one of my Laguna Caps, named for Laguna Beach, one of my favorite places on earth. Drawing from the design of the Wave Caps that use two colors, the Laguna Caps use four in this signature style that encloses the waves in a band that reaches all the way around the cap. Here I've used four colors of a Peruvian angora/wool yarn for a soft, warm and lightweight beanie cap that looks fantastic on.

$100.00  Cap #7533  Sold
Merino wool and alpaca got together here for something earthen, thick, soft and warm. The green yarn is the merino wool and it's from Italy. The alpaca is a superfine tweed from Peru` and it's in its natural tan, brown and grey colors. Accenting in the band is a black merino boucle`, also from Italy. This Pussy Cap is thick and super soft with a lot of inherent durability because of these high quality yarns. A classic beanie cap fit and style that will comfortably fit anyone's head. Got hazel eyes with a touch of gold in them? Here's your cap.

$100.00 - Cap #7524  Sold
Every once in awhile I crochet a cap that has me grinning from the first few stitches right on through to the last one. I grin because the cap just looks and feels so wonderful and it makes me happy to think I get to do this almost every day of my life. In this particular grin-maker I took three strands of yarn and crocheted them together as one. First up is a natural silver angora fur yarn that was handspun for me by Kristen Worthington. Next up is a very thin sky-blue merino wool yarn that I found in an antique shop and is most likely, judging from the label, a beauty from the 1940s. And finally, a strand of natural black Peruvian alpaca for depth, durability and contrast. It's a big Pussy Cap with a luxurious feel - super dense to keep you warm and protected and a long comfortable fit that'll slip right down over your eyes if you want it to. And yes, it's extremely, wonderfully, beautifully, amazingly soft. Enjoy!

This richly textured Pussy Cap got lots of oohs and aahs at the craft show in Santa Monica where I first started working on it. Almost everybody that stopped by the booth touched it or commented on it. The dark curly yarn you see here is a boucle` that's commercially spun from a very soft wool. Lisa Souza hand-dyed it to this dark steely grey color. Accenting is Petrified Forest, one of Lisa's hand-dyed, handspun merino yarns from her Rare Treasures collection. This is a really big, roomy cap that would be ideal for somebody with lots of hair, a big head or dreads. It has a lot of room at the top and isn't as tightly fitted in the crown as most of my caps are. Far from being sloppy though, this Pussy Cap looks fantastic on and is wonderfully soft and supple.

It doesn't get much softer or warmer than baby alpaca and this Pussy Cap has it going on in spades. With the exception of the light green yarn this is all baby alpaca in shades of green, teal, grey and black. I doubled the yarns throughout most of the cap so it's nice and thick in addition to being ultra soft and squishy. A big cap with a generous fit and the soft, silky comfort that alpaca is famous for.

$100.00 - Cap #320  Sold
The colors of spring are all here in this colorful and wonderfully soft Pussy Cap. The lime green yarn is baby alpaca from Peru` and the colorful yarn is a handpainted domestic wool. I was surprised - wool isn't usually this soft, but this one breaks all the rules. The baby alpaca coupled with the wool really worked and the colors of this beanie are bright and vibrant and create a really nice swirling pattern up and down the cap. A big four inch turned up band can be worn down as well and looks great either way.

$120.00 - Cap #7425  Sold
Lisa Souza hand-dyed and handspun this beautiful yarn from superfine merino and baby alpaca and called it Mesa Verde. It's very very soft. The rich colors move through a pallet of blues and greens with the occasional touch of gold. Some of the yarn is spun thick and some of it thin which gives this Pussy Cap a ton of wonderful texture and thickness. This cap will fit close to the head but it has an amazing amount of stretch so it'll comfortably fit anybody's head and come easily down to the eyes and below the ears.

$100.00 - Cap #6381  Sold
If you like angora fur then here's something really special for you. This is Lisa Souza's 100% pure handspun angora fur hand-dyed in her Olive Tones colorway. The colors are so subtle and rich that it's almost impossible for a digital camera to capture the full range of what's going. But let me assure you, the colors are something quite spectacular. Accenting every few rows is another one of Lisa's handspun yarns; this one spun from natural jet-black baby alpaca fibers. The person who gets this cap can consider themselves really lucky because this one is a real cake-taker! It's got a nice roomy fit and as you wear it a few times the angora fur will begin to bloom and soon you'll have a really furry looking cap that won't lose any of its beautiful colors. Angora is ten to twelve times warmer than wool so this is definitely the right choice for seven in the morning when you're scraping ice off the windshield of your car. Down to the eyes and below the ears this is definitely a winner. Go for it - you'll never regret it.

$140.00 - Cap #7557  Sold
From Italy comes one of the most interesting and beautiful yarns I've found this season. This is a wonderfully soft wool that's been spun in a tightly spiraled way so that it creates a lot of texture and softness. The finished fabric as you can see, is quite amazing and so soft that it almost feels like cashmere. Accenting in stripes throughout is a blend of Peruvian baby alpaca & silk in black. This is a thick, soft, easy-fitting Pussy Cap that looks sensational on and will give you years and years of wear. I love this cap!

I kept thinking of Molly Ringwald when I made this cap. Pretty in Pink of course. And it's a beautiful pink. I don't do pink very often so it has to be a beautiful one when I do. And this one is sensational. It's pure merino wool accented by whilte Samoyed fur and pink handpainted silk from Lisa Souza. A snug, traditional beanie cap fit and style for someone who just has to have pink. Did I mention soft? Yep, that too.

For this stunning Sherpa Pussy Cap I crocheted two yarns together as one. First is a heavenly soft blend of baby alpaca & silk in a natural creamy white and second is a strand of superfine Peruvian alpaca in three of its natural tan and cream colors. The resulting softness and beauty is off the charts - so soft and warm you'll never want to take it off. Roll your cursor over the images for more views.

A beautiful Wensleydale wool, handpainted and handspun into a very thin yarn by Lisa Souza in a subtle pallet of pastels has been coupled here with a strand of natural white Peruvian alpaca. Accenting is a band of natural white alpaca and a beautiful golden yarn from Italy that's a blend of silk, cashmere and mohair. Soft, warm and wonderful on.

I'm nearing the last of my signature Woody Blue yarn and since it's been discontinued, when it's gone it's gone and that will be the end of that. What I'm doing with what's left is creating the most beautiful combinations with this special yarn that I can come up with. Woody Blue was my first signature anything when I started making Pussy Caps and now it's going to be mostly just a happy memory for me. (Yes, I do have a Woody Blue Pussy Cap in my personal collection.) Here I've combined the Woody Blue alpaca/wool yarn with a strand of the most beautiful alpaca tweed in natural bluish greys and brown. Accenting in the band is the exact same alpaca/wool yarn only in brown and red. It's thick and soft and for sure a cold weather Pussy Cap. You'll love how this cap looks and feels on. A nice traditional beanie cap fit for sure.

$120.00 - Cap #7496  Sold
These are all millspun merino yarns from Italy with two of them in the boucle` style of spinning that gives the yarn a curly look. They're amazingly lightweight and soft and even though this is a big fitting cap it hardly weighs anything at all. Big and drapey, it's finished in my signature Four Corners style and can be worn in a number of different ways depending on the moment and your mood. The colors here were a little tricky and are probably a little greener than what you're seeing on your monitor. A fabulous cap with a fun and funky Cat In The Hat feeling to it.

$120.00 - Cap #7539  Sold
One of my signature Wave Caps in blue & white that I crocheted using a millspun Peruvian yarn that's a blend of angora fur and wool. This is a lightweight cap with lots of breatheability because of the loose stitches. But the angora will still keep your head plenty warm and protected without smothering it. A classically styled beanie cap that fits close to the head, low to the eyes and below the ears.

Inspired by the colors of a Papuan New Guinea tribal face painting, pictured below, this Pussy Cap combines a strand of yellow silk and a strand of yellow Koigu Merino that have been accented with red and yellow yarns blended from merino, alpaca, yak and mohair. Thick and soft with a classic beanie style and fit.

Lots and lots of downy soft baby alpaca here. The forest green yarn is millspun in Peru` and it alternates with a gorgeous handspun yarn from Gayle Paige of Oregon that's a colorful blend of baby alpaca and angora fur. Softeness that's off the charts and lots and lots of warmth in a lightweight beanie that has a loose, comfortable fit and feels fantastic on.

Mostly what you'll feel in this Pussy Cap is a furry alpaca yarn in a natural espresso brown that was handspun by Marsha Berkemeier. Accenting in alternating rows is a lustrous Bombyx silk that was hand-dyed a subtle range of pinks by Lisa Souza. The alpaca provides softness and lots of warmth while the silk keeps the cap light and loose feeling. This is a little bit smaller cap, perfect for someone who likes their beanies to fit close to the head. There's plenty of length though for wearing down to the eyes and below the ears.

$100.00 - Cap #318  Sold
From my Four Corners signature Pussy Cap Collection comes this wildly soft and luxurious cap that's blended from two gorgeous yarns. The first is a downy soft teal boucle` yarn from Italy that's spun mostly from baby alpaca with a little bit of wool at its core to keep it strong. You'll never in a million years feel the wool because it's completely buried under the curls of the baby alpaca boucle`. In other words, it's the lusciously soft baby alpaca that's going to be next to your skin! Coupled with the baby alpaca is a thin strand of South American virgin wool that's been handpainted in delicate shades of lavender, green, purple and cool white. The two yarns work beautifully together and I have left some of each of them loose for a funkier look. You can turn the hat inside out if you don't like the loose strands of yarn hanging down. Finished in the Four Corners style, this Pussy Cap is downy soft, roomy and wonderful on. A seriously nice winter Pussy Cap.

Now this is one fine looking Pussy Cap! I started out with a soft grey wool from France that's got little flecks of tan and white in it. Then I quickly shifted to a steel-grey boucle` yarn from Japan that's blended from silk & merino into which is nestled a band of natural creamy white angora fur shells. The rest of the cap continues with the grey wool and finishes with a small crown of the boucle`. This is a big, thick, heavily textured cap that looks absolutely fantastic on and will keep you warm and well protected in any kind of weather. Hover over the pictures for more views.

Aaaah, now this is what I call soft - pure Peruvian baby alpaca in natural white and bright cheery red. The softness and smoothness of baby alpaca make it one of the best choices for wearing next to the skin, especially for those who have really sensitive skin or a contentious relationship with wool. With a warmth factor that's at least eight times that of wool and legendary durability, this baby alpaca Pussy Cap will be keeping you warm for a long, long time. It's a thick cap and a big one too - perfect for any size head.

This is one of those caps that had me grinning from start to finish. In fact, I was enjoying crocheting it so much I didn't want it to end; so with the yarns that remained after this cap was finished I immediately started a cap for myself. Mine won't have these wonderful brown accents but the body of the cap will be the same yarns. And they are, in no particular order, a strand of superfine Peruvian alpaca in light tans, a strand of Japanese cashmere & silk in a soft olive green and a strand of natural creamy white cashmere, yak & merino from Canada. The result is one of the most luscious feeling fabrics I've ever created. Lucky the person who gets this cap - and lucky me for having just enough yarns to make something simple out of them for myself. Accenting in the band and across the four-cornered top is a natural espresso-brown handspun llama yarn from Marsha Berkemeier of Missouri. An easy comfortable fit for any size head with a world of softness and warmth and natural animal-fibered wonderfullness!

This is one of my signature Laguna Pussy Caps, the body of which is crocheted from Marsha Berkemeir's beautiful handspun alpaca yarn in its natural dark brown color. Although it's hard to see it in the picture, this yarn is spun thick and will provide lots and lots of warmth for the coldest days and nights of winter. Accenting in the band are natural tan handspun alpaca, natural white handspun merino & cashmere and a millspun blend of possum fur & merino in a rich agate red. A thick, substantial cap with lots of length for wearing low to the eyes and below the ears. A classic Laguna Pussy Cap made entirely from natural animal-fibered yarns.

Two beautiful yarns are paired in this elegant Pussy Cap that echoes the colors of Concord grapes. The first is a downy soft handpainted, handspun merino wool in medium purple. Alternating every other row is a deep purple blend of silk, cashmere & lambswool from Noro of Japan. In the border I pulled both yarns together in a double crochet to give this Pussy Cap an elegant, feminine finish. The fit is close to the head but the cap is long and has a lot of inherent stretch so it will work well for just about anybody. The colors in the pictures are true but the yarns have less sheen and are more subtle.

This ultra thick and decadently soft Pussy Cap is going to Sweden with my nephew who's going to be spending a couple of years there. His dad, my twin brother Steve, asked me to make the caps super thick and warm so this one is crafted from three strands of yarn crocheted together as one: a strand of natural silver, grey, black and white superfine alpaca tweed from Peru`, a strand of natural black superfine alpaca, also from Peru` and finally a strand of black merino wool & silk boucle` from Italy. It's thick and it's big and warm and durable and if my nephew's head gets cold with this Pussy Cap on then he better come home!

Another custom Pussy Cap for my nephew David who's on his way to Sweden. This one uses Lisa Souza's Fat Bunny yarn that's been handpainted in these beautiful shades of mahogany. It's millspun from a blend of angora fur, merino wool and a little bit of nylon. Coupled with it throughout the cap is a strand of natural black superfine alpaca from Peru`. With a huge turned up band this is one of the thickest and densest caps I've ever made - it carries the promise of a very warm head no matter how cold it gets.

My friend Neil from Manhattan won this Pussy Cap in a contest that I had recently. It echoes the cap that I originally made for him but that got eaten up by a friend's dog. Different yarns but a similiar pattern insure that this is still a one-of-a-kind Pussy Cap. In the blue area we have Lisa Souza's handpainted yarn called Fat Bunny that's spun from angora fur, merino wool and a tiny bit of nylon. I coupled it with a very thin strand of merino wool that I found in an antique shop and judging from the label looks to be like it's from the 1940s. In the white we have the luxurious natural white Samoyed fur yarn that's been coupled with a strand of natural white superfine alpaca from Peru`. A luxurious Pussy Cap to say the least and one that'll keep Neil's head really really warm during those crazy cold New York winters.

This is one of those amazing angora fur Pussy Caps that have become a big favorite here in the land of all things beanie Chez Tom. From the mistress of all things fiber, Lisa Souza, we have this exceptionally beautiful natural white angora fur coupled with one of her handpainted, handspun cashmere & silk blends in fabulously rich shades of brown and gold and subtle blue. The combination of these two handspun yarns is a good indication of why I love making these caps so much. Sometimes two yarns get together and it's just plain magic. And I like magic! A nice comfortable fit for anybody's head, this Pussy Cap is of course downy soft and majorly warm for the coldest winter days you can find. I think the Emperor Penguins would really like this one, yes?

From my signature Four Corners Pussy Cap collection comes this latest beauty that combines two really amazing yarns. First is a lustrous silk & mohair blend from Lisa Souza that she's handpainted in this rich pallet of golds. Coupled with it throughout the cap is a handpainted merino wool yarn from South America that covers a broad range of colors including burnt orange, emerald green, bracken brown and olive green. The yarns are great together and have created a thick, soft fabric that'll keep your head and ears toasty warm. The whimsical look of the Four Corners style is proving to be a favorite with my clients and I think you'll really enjoy the way this particular one looks on. Dangling threads are left that way on purpose but you can make them disappear by reversing the cap.

This is one of my new signature styles but I haven't come up with a name for it yet. A totally different fit, look and feel than my regular beanies, this is the perfect choice for someone who wants a cap that fits more loosely on the head and looks more like a hat than a beanie. The colorful yarn you see here is a blend of silk and wool from the revered Noro yarnmakers of Japan and accenting on the top of the cap and tucked into the band is a soft blend of llama and wool from Peru`in a really nice aubergine. Big, thick and beautifully styled, this is sure to become one of my new best-sellers because it looks so great on the head and satisfies the requests that i've had for something that looks like a beanie but isn't a beanie. Enjoy!

I alternated two very lightweight yarns here and crocheted them on a larger hook so that this Pussy Cap could be worn year-round in just about any climate. The solid blue yarn is a downy-soft brushed baby alpaca from Peru` and its companion yarn is a handspun, hand-dyed merino wool from a spinner in Oregon. A symphony in blue for my hairdresser buddy Michael John in Hollywood.
