Handmade Crocheted Hats and Beanies from Pussy Cap
In my signature Laguna style is this new limited edition series nicknamed The Roadkill Caps. A friend of mine dubbed them that because of the possum and raccoon furs in them. This particular Roadkill cap starts out with a silky, jet black handspun llama yarn from Marsha Berekemeier. Accenting in the band is a rare handspun yarn blended from buffalo & yak down in natural brown and tan colors, a handspun blend of natural ivory raccon fur & cashmere and finally a maroon blend of possum fur & merino from New Zealand. Thick, soft, warm and bold this easy fitting cap comes low to the eyes and below the ears.

Here's a picture showing what each of the yarns in the Roadkill Caps are spun from.
Another wonderful colorway from Lisa Souza in her Fat Bunny yarn. This is Mahogany and the yarn is a sensational blend of mostly angora fur with a little bit of merino wool and nylon added to the mix. A thick, easy fitting Pussy Cap whose style has quickly become my favorite of the season. Not sure why but the Pussy Caps made from this yarn really look and feel great on. And boy are they warm!

Reminiscent of the colors of a Florentine painting from the Renaissance is this masterfully handpainted ribbon yarn from Wales in a pallet that's sophisticated and rich with subtlety. I coupled this cotton/rayon yarn with a downy soft Peruvian baby alpaca yarn in olive green for a thick and sensuous Pussy Cap. Accenting in the band is a coupling of two hand-dyed yarns that have been double crocheted - a red virgin wool from Uruguay and a red Bombyx silk from Lisa Souza. This is a stunning Pussy Cap, as much for its beautiful colors as for its luxurious feel. It's big and roomy and because of the alpaca will keep you toasty warm and well protected. One of a kind beauty for someone who wants the very best of the best. Hover over the images for more views.

Something special here - a hand-dyed, handspun merino wool from Lisa Keating that's been banded with a gorgeous natural silver angora fur that was handspun by Denise Satterlund. Both of these gals gifted me with these yarns as get-well presents and here they are for your enjoyment worked up into soft, wonderful Pussy Caps. For this particular cap I doubled the brown merino wool for a thicker fabric and then worked the angora fur into the band for extra warmth and softness around the ears and forehead. This is definitely a winter cap and one that will give you years and years of warmth and enjoyment.

Both of these gals gifted me with these yarns as get-well presents and here they are for your enjoyment worked up into soft, wonderful Pussy Caps. For this particular cap I crocheted the yarns singly and alternated the rows so the fabric is wildly soft and supple. You've got to feel it to believe it - it really is amazing. A smaller fit but with lots of stretch - a perfect Pussy Cap for year-round comfort.

This dramatic Kahuna Pussy Cap starts out with a band of jet black baby alpaca, handspun by Lisa Souza.Into it are nestled three rows of triangles crocheted with an ultra soft white yarn that's a blend of angora fur, alpaca & wool, handspun by Kristen Worthington of Utah. That same yarn is then repeated for the rest of the cap. This beautiful Kahuna is characterized by its luscious softness and its classic black & white look.

The body of this Pussy Cap is 100% pure Peruvian alpaca. The three natural shades of tan and cream are all spun together here and I doubled the yarns so this is a really thick, warm cap with a ton of durability at its core. The pattern in the band has been crocheted from Lisa Souza's handspun, hand-dyed silk/merino yarn in garnet red. A bold, beautiful Pussy Cap with a comfortable fit and winter warmth to spare. If you haven't tried alpaca yet you really must - it's amazing stuff.

My signature Woody Blue yarn, blended from alpaca & wool, has found a great new companion in a bi-colored pure baby alpaca yarn from Peru`. These two millspun yarns are perfectly matched in color, size and softness and make for a thick cap with a substantial feel to it that gives up nothing in terms of softness and comfort. A really nice Pussy Cap with a classic beanie cap fit and style.

$100.00  Cap #266 Sold
This is one of those Pussy Caps that I can't stop looking at or holding in my hands, even long after I'm done making it. A ruby red virgin wool from Uruguay has been kettled-dyed and handspun with a wonderful thick-thin spin to it that provides lots of texture and visual interest. It's also the most beautiful pallet of reds I've ever worked with. Joining it is a luxuriously soft blend of angora fur and suri baby alpaca in their natural colors, handspun by Gayle Paige of Oregon. Stunning colors in a showstopper of a cap that will fit close to the head and keep you warm in style. Hover over the images for more views.

Stepping away from subtlety here for a moment, I crocheted the body of this Pussy Cap with a striking red Uruguayan wool that was handspun and kettle-dyed to perfection. For the band I used the same Uruguayan wools as the red only in pale blue and yellow and then accented them with a Peruvian Highland wool in rich orange. One thing's for sure - nobody will have any trouble spotting you in a snowstorm or in a crowd with this baby on your head. It's a classic beanie cap fit and style for those who like to make a statement with their beanies.

The Four Corners Pussy Cap Collection is the latest of my signature styles to be introduced for the fall & winter season '06. And here we have one of the most exquisite examples of how well this style works. The white yarn you're seeing is one of Lisa Souza's handspun gems called Mushroom. It's a blend of cashmere & merino and it's off the charts lumpy, bumpy, soft and warm. Coupled with it throughout the entire cap I used a superfine Peruvian alpaca yarn that's a blend of natural blacks, browns and tans. The cap is trimmed with the alpaca yarn and there are strands of it hanging down from each of the Four Corners. An absolutely luscious Pussy Cap that is off the charts wonderful on!

Lisa Souza's hand-dyed, handspun Joseph's Coat cashmere finds the ideal compliment here with this beautiful handmade felted wool flower whose colors perfectly match and compliment the corals in the cap. This is the world's finest cashmere from Mongollia and Lisa has created from it one of the most beautiful yarns I've ever worked with. It's soft and luxurious to the touch and with time, wearing and washing will develop a downy soft halo, making it even more amazing than it is now. Below you can see a picture of Lisa in her Pussy Cap that's similiar to this one. The flower really adds some magic and gives this Pussy Cap a decidedly 20s kind of a feel.

Handmade Crocheted Hats and Beanies from Pussy Cap
I chose 100% pure Peruvian alpaca in natural black, browns and tans for this bold and handsome Pussy Cap. This is the superfine grade of alpaca so it's amazingly soft and smooth, perfect for next to the skin comfort. I doubled all of the yarns so it's thick and dense for the ultimate in protection even on the coldest days. As well as being many times warmer than wool, alpaca is extremely durable so this is a cap that'll be keeping you warm pretty much forever. A comfortable generous fit with a lot of length for wearing low to the eyes and well below the ears, this is probably what you'd call the ideal beanie cap.

$100.00 - Cap #6392 Sold
This is where it gets fun: I took Lisa Souza's handspun, hand-dyed cashmere in a colorway she calls Santa Fe and coupled it with a natural silver angora fur for the ultimate in softness and rich, elegant color. This is the highest quality of cashmere available - so soft and beautiful that you'll fall in love at first touch. The angora is far more beautiful than the picture here shows, so be prepared with this cap to swoon! It really is amazing. This is a slightly smaller cap with a snug fit but it'll stretch easily to fit anybody's head.

Looking for softness? Determined to find something that'll work with your brown or hazel eyes? Wanna stay warm no matter how cold the weather? Feel like indulging yourself? Answered yes to any or all of my questions? Well, have I got the Pussy Cap for you. This is 100% pure angora fur, hand-dyed and handspun by Lisa Souza for her Rare Treasures Collection. It's called Olive Tones Angora and it's a Pussy Cap exclusive. The greens, olives, teals and golds shift gently one into the other creating the most amazing pallet of color that looks different from every angle. The warmth of angora is enhanced here by the small, close stitches and the fit is roomy and comfortable with lots of length for covering up those cold ears. This unique and beautiful beanie is sure to become one of your all-time favorite pieces of clothing. Hover over the images for more views.

A custom Pussy Cap for Kelly crocheted from black baby alpaca & silk that alternates with a domestic silk/rayon yarn in shades of purple, blue and brickish red. Soft, drapey and full of mystery.

$100.00 - Cap #6462  Sold
This baby went straight into my personal collection. I didn't even have to think about it twice. It's now become one of my favorites and I wear it all the time. It's crocheted from two yarns pulled together as one. First is a handpainted merino wool from Lisa Souza called Gendarme, the same yarn that Audrey Clark knit my beautiful socks from. So my cap matches my socks! The other yarn is a natural tan baby camel down that was millspun in Canada.

Priceless - Cap #6463  Mine
All three of the yarns in this cap, red, black and grey, are spun in Peru` from a blend of baby alpaca and silk. This is a really wonderful yarn with tons of smooth silky softness that feels so amazing on. An easy fit, a great look and a lot of durability and warmth inherent to the alpaca. Very cool.

A custom Pussy Cap for a special friend. Lots of natural animal fibers here: possum fur & merino from New Zealand, domestic raccoon fur & cashmere handspun by Gayle Paige, yak down handspun by Lisa Souza, several shades of natural superfine alpaca and even some silk & mohair from Japan.

A custom black Four Corners Pussy Cap for Kay. I still can't get over this amazing cap - tons and tons of custom handspun cashmere from Kristen Worthington is coupled with a strand of Italian millspun cashmere for an avalanche of blackened softness that is almost impossible to believe, even after all the hours I invested holding it my hands and working with it. It's cashmere, what can I say? Cashmere makes me smile and it makes me happy when I wear it. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeh, Kay's new custom Four Corners Black Cashmere Pussy Cap. Yup!

$200.00 - Cap #6471  Sold
Quite possibly one of the most beautiful and most elegant of all the caps I've made over the past many years. The band is a good four inches of golden wonder: one strand of the yarn is mohair & silk from New Zealand to which I coupled a strand of silk & merino wool. Both were hand-dyed their rich golden colors by Lisa Souza. For the rest of the cap we have a fabulous black Italian yarn that's blended from merino, microfibre and cashmere. And guess what? It feels just like cashmere so it'll be wonderful next to the sensitive skin of your head and face. I doubled the yarns here so the body and top of the cap are ultra thick and will provide a lot of warmth and protection during the winter chill. It really is amazing.

$140.00 - Cap #6453-Sold
For the new Four Corners Pussy Cap Collection I've crocheted two extraordinary yarns together as one in this fabulous winter cap. First is a Canadian gem blended from qiviut, alpaca and merino all in their natural light tan colors. Second is a superfine Peruvian alpaca in natural bluish-grey and brown. There are no words to describe the hand here - it's swoon-inducing for sure. Orgasmic buttery softness and beauty - 100% natural animal fibered yarns in their natural colors!

$140.00 - Cap #6456  Sold
A custom Four Corners Pussy Cap for my buddy Richard who helped me choose the yarns and then sat and chatted with me the whole time I was crocheting the cap. The marroon yarn is from New Zealand and is blended from possum fur & merino. Coupled with it throughout the rest of the cap is a large assortment of various yarns that consist mostly of Lisa Souza's handspun/hand-dyed angora fur yarns. A most amazing Pussy Cap to say the least.

Cap #6473  Sold
Alpaca & wool fibers from South America, perfectly blended into yarn and hand-dyed to perfection. The yarn isn't the softest on earth but the colors were too spectacular to pass up. A snug cap that would be perfect for skiers or boarders because it'll stay on your head once it's there.

One of the all-time favorite yarns in my stash is this thick, soft blend of alpaca & wool from England in a really nice brick red. I've accented it in this Pussy Cap with two double-crocheted bands of a handpainted cotton/rayon ribbon yarn from Wales that has a rich pallet of colors that remind me of a Florentine Renaissance painting. A classic beanie cap fit and style for any size head with all the softness and warmth you could ever need.

$100.00 - Cap #6362-Sold
Alpaca and cashmere - what an amazing combination! For the body of this Pussy Cap I coupled two strands of superfine Peruvian alpaca in natural grey and natural black and then accented them with three rows of brushed Italian cashmere in black that was double crocheted for extra softness and thickness next to the ears and forehead. Man oh man oh man is this a beauty. It looks amazing on and it feels even more amazing on than it looks. A winner all the way around with a generous, comfortable fit and the warmth and durability that alpaca is famous for PLUS the extravagant softness of cashmere right where you want it most.

$100.00 - Cap #6410 Sold
Black Italian cashmere that I brought back from Rome this summer and handspun natural silver angora fur make for a truly extraordinary Pussy Cap that's subtle in its look but sensational for its softness and warmth. Do you really need me to explain cashmere and angora to you or can you just melt into the idea without any help? I love combining cashmere and angora yarns and that seems to be a theme for the fall line.

$120.00 - Cap #6414  Sold
Both of the beautiful handspun yarns that I used in this cap come from rural co-ops in South America. From a co-op of women in Chile` we have a silky black angora fur yarn, handspun and then hand-dyed a deep shimmering black. Nestled in amongst the long furry angora is a virgin wool from a small co-op of women in rural Uruguay that's been kettle-dyed a rich pallet of colors that includes blues, teals, golds and greens. While the black angora fur is more subtle to the eye it dominates in terms of feel, creating luscious softness and amazing warmth. An easy fit with generous length this Pussy Cap has a lot more of a furry look and is a lot more subdued than how it appears in the picture.
Digital. Harrumph.

$100.00  Cap #276  Sold
A great millspun virgin wool from Italy in a rich brick red accented with random bursts of color along the way. This Pussy Cap has more of winter style with a gathered top and a really wide turned up band at the bottom. The fit is super snug which makes it great for boarders, sledders or anyone who needs their cap to stay on no matter how hard they're playing.

$100.00 - Cap #6378  Sold
This handsome Pussy Cap is a slight variation on my signature Koigu caps in that it has two strands of the Koigu handpainted merino wool crocheted together instead of three. The result is just a slightly thinner fabric that nonetheless retains all of the attractiveness and durability of this amazing yarn. Here I've used dark brown, muted cranberry and multicolored in alternating stripes. Koigu was originally developed for sock yarn and it has an amazing amount of stretch as well as a lot of durability. But most importantly, it's soft and smooth so it's the perfect yarn for a beanie cap that will be worn next to the ears and forehead. This is a great looking Pussy Cap on with a classic beanie style and fit.

The Noro yanrmakers of Japan are famous for their masterful and often whimsical use of color and here's a great example of just how good they are at what they do. Blended from wool, silk and mohair this yarn is soft and fluffy and covers a stunning pallet of jewel-like colors. I coupled it with a strand of Lisa Souza's hand-dyed Bombyx silk that adds a wonderful shimmer and sheen. The darker bands you see are crocheted from a heavenly soft baby alpaca boucle yarn from Italy which in concert with the Noro yarn makes for a wildly soft, thick and beautiful Pussy Cap. The fit is big and generous with enough length to easily turn up a band or wear with a nice drape at the crown.

Pure indulgent luxury here in a wildly soft, thick and sensuous black cashmere that was custom spun for me by Kristen Worthington of Utah. I can guarantee you, you've never seen or felt cashmere this thick or this soft before. It's off the charts and it's everything that makes cashmere one of the world's most sought after natural animal fibers for clothing that's worn next to the skin. Honestly? This kind of cashmere would be wasted if it weren't worn next to the skin. And as if this cashmere weren't amazing enough by itself, I've added a band of natural light grey angora fur to really set things off. The simplicty of black in a roomy and comfortable Pussy Cap for someone who wants the very best of the best in cashmere. Expensive and worth every last little penny you'll invest in it.

I wish I could take credit for the beautiful pairing of these two yarns, but the credit has to go to Lisa Souza who came up with the idea and then allowed me to steal it from her. One of the yarns is a beautiful blend of angora fur & merino that has a thread of gold wrapped around it - Lisa dyed the angora and merino before spinning them together with the metallic gold. The other yarn is a millspun wool that Lisa hand-dyed in a subtle shifting pallet of greens. Together these yarns are sensational and make for a warm, lusciously soft Pussy Cap. I gave it a big four inch band and gathered it at the top instead of making it fitted. It has a snug but very comfortable fit and is beautiful on.

$120.00 - Cap #6433  Sold
100% pure superfine Peruvian alpaca in several of its natural shades of creamy white, tan, chocolate and dark brown. This gorgeous Pussy Cap has a big turned up band and a gathered top for a really nice fit and unique style. I crocheted some of the yarn onto the surface of the cap so there's some cool accents and texture going on here. The cap will fit snug to the head without squeezing it and it'll stay put no matter what you're doing. Soft, warm and wonderful, all for you this winter. Enjoy!

$120.00 - Cap #6464  Sold
Two really wonderful yarns got crocheted together here for something really special. The first yarn is a softer than soft Peruvian baby alpaca in bracken greens; really amazing colors in this yarn. Coupled with it and perfectly suited to it is a handspun yarn from Lisa Souza that's blended from angora fur and a little bit of wool and gold metallic thread. What a combination this turned out to be! The cap is lusciously soft with a nice drape and it'll be warm enough for the coldest days of winter. Easy, comfortable fit in a classic beanie cap style. (Got green or hazel eyes???)

$120.00 - Cap #6466  Sold
100% pure natural white angora fur from Chile, handspun by a co-op of women from a small mountain village. This is the thickest, bloomiest angora fur you're ever going to experience in this exciting new Sherpa-style Pussy Cap. Warmth? Softness? You've got it all right here. From the new Four Corners Pussy Cap Collection comes this extraordinary coupling of red possum fur & merino from New Zealand with Peruvian superfine alpaca in its natural black, tan and white colors. This is a huge cap - thick and soft and ultra warm for your arctic rock climbing expeditions. You can wear it with the band turned up or down - both ways are a great look. Instead of being fitted at the top the Four Corners caps are squared and there is a lot of height at the crown.

$140.00 - Cap #6449-2  Sold
From the new Four Corners Pussy Cap Collection comes a lusciously soft coupling of two blended yarns. The first is an Italian millspun yarn that blends merino, microfibre and a little bit of cashmere. The effect is pure cashmerian though. I coupled it with one of Lisa Souza's handspun yarns blended from angora fur and wool in their natural taupey colors. Together these two yarns have created an amazingly soft fabric that is as warm and durable as it is beautiful to look at.

$140.00 - Cap #6450-2  Sold
Oh yeh, bring it on baby, bring it on. This handpainted pure Mongollian cashmere yarn caught my eye a few weeks ago and so I spent my last farthing on it and coupled it with a strand of Peruvian superfine alpaca for one of the most beautiful Pussy Caps ever. The colors are astonishing here - golds and blues that are at once demure and yet bold and alluring. What can I say? It's a ton of cashmere and it delivers on every promise ever made by cashmere. The top is gathered rather than Four Cornered but the overall style is similiar to the Four Corners Series. There's a truckload of wonderful here and some other adjectives that come to mind are sumptuous, indulgent and luxurious.

$200.00 - Cap #6459-2  Sold
Baby camel down and angora fur really do work well together and this softer than soft Pussy Cap shows how nicely. The natural tan baby camel down, handspun by Kristen Worthington of Utah, is joined by a millspun angora fur yarn that was handpainted in a breezy pallet of teals, pale olive greens & white. It all works so well together here and makes for a very soft, lightweight, warm and comfortably fitted Pussy Cap.

This beautiful rust colored alpaca/wool blend from Peru` might have been a little iffy for wearing next to the skin had I not combined it with a super-soft handspun angora fur in its natural dove-grey color. The two of them together cover all the bases - softness, warmth, comfort and durability. It's a smaller cap with a decidedly snug fit - perfect for skiers and boarders who need their beanies to stay put!

The teal yarn you're seeing here is one of Lisa Souza's little gems that comes from her dye-raj, which I think is a garage that doubles as a dying labratory. The yarn is a millspun blend of merino wool and nylon spun specifically for socks and it's soft and amazingly durable. Lisa gave this sock yarn a bath in a rich teal dye and I crocheted it into a Pussy Cap. Accenting in the band is one of Lisa's luscious handspun, hand-dyed angora fur yarns from her Rare Treasure's Collection. It's called Olive Tones and is bordered on either side by her handspun, natural black baby alpaca yarn. Beautiful colors, wonderful yarns, and a classic beanie cap fit.

Aside from the colorful cotton/rayon yarn you see here there's a thin strand of soft black furry mohair coupled with it that adds a lot of tactile and visual interest that my camera couldn't quite capture. The two yarns combined make for a fabric that has a lot of drape and softness as well as enough lightness for year round comfort. Accenting in the band and at the crown is a super soft, natural black Peruvian alpaca yarn. A classic beanie cap style with an easy comfortable fit.

From the Rowan yarnmakers of England we have this thick and wonderfully soft yarn that's a blend of alpaca & wool in subtle olive grey. Alternating every other row is a a shimmering cotton/rayon ribbon yarn in silvery white and olive green that looks metallic but of course isn't. These two soft yarns are perfectly matched with the ribbon yarn providing some nice breathing space in between the heavier alpaca/wool. A classic beanie cap fit and look with lots and lots of length for wearing low to the eyes and below the ears.

Merino, microfiber and a little bit of cashmere are the fibers in this wonderful yarn. But honestly? It feels more like cashmere than anything else. I coupled the upper part of the cap with a thin strand of Japanese cashmere & silk just for fun and even though the effect is subtle, it's very much noticeable when you're holding the cap in your hands. Simple coloring, simple style for a Pussy Cap that's perfect for year round everyday wear.

This is a really nice merino wool from Italy that's been commercially spun and dyed in these subtle shades of pink, coral and pale olive green. It's a really thick cap but not as heavy as some that are as thick as it is.  The merino has been spun lightly and it's soft and smooth next to the skin. Accenting is a band of black alpaca & silk. A nice big Pussy Cap with a comfortable fit and enough breathability to make it wearable almost all year round.

$100.00 - Cap #6423  Sold
Angora fur blended with a little merino wool and nylon makes for a super soft, super warm, super durable Pussy Cap. Here we have the natural white it originally comes in and then a garnet yarn in the band that Lisa Souza hand-dyed. I used a bigger hook here so there's lots of room for the yarn to bloom and puff up. You'll love it when it does that - it looks so cool. This is a medium-sized, comfortable fitting Pussy Cap, perfect for anyone's head. This is a new yarn from Lisa Souza called Fat Bunny and it really does work up into a sensational beanie.

Most of this Pussy Cap is crocheted from a rustic, natural tan merino wool that was handspun by Lisa Souza. To dress things up a little I added a band of silk & mohair from New Zealand that Lisa hand-dyed this shimmering pallet of golds. On either side of the gold band is a row of her natural black handspun baby alpaca. A classic beanie cap style with a snug fit but lots and lots of stretch for any size head. Soft, simple and warm.

Beautiful shades of greys, whites and blacks in this thick Pussy Cap that combines several different types of yarns: German virgin wool, superfine Peruvian alpaca, Italian merino boucle` and Japanese silk & mohair. This is an easy fitting cap with a lot of stretch to it and it's really nice on.

Merino wool & silk, blended and handspun and hand-dyed by Lisa Souza make up both colors of this beautiful yarn. The red is called Garnet and the blue is her exquisite colorway called Bimini. I wouldn't have normally put them together in the same cap but somehow they really seemed to work, so I did it. Sold before it made it to the website; which somehow didn't surprise me because it looked so amazing on its new owner.

$120.00 - Cap #7482  Sold
This scrumptious angora fur and merino blend yarn was millspun and then hand-dyed by Lisa Souza in these rich earth tones as well as a beautiful garnet. This is a new yarn for my Pussy Caps and I know you're going to love it as much as I do. It's soft, it's thick, it's warm and it's really durable because of a little bit of nylon that's been added to the blend. Perfect for a beanie cap that you'll love wearing and that'll be around forever! Big and roomy, this is perfect for anyone with lots of hair or who likes the look of a larger cap. It's not a sloppy fit though - it'll for sure stay put.

$100.00 - Cap #6420  Sold
Lisa Souza's Santa Fe handspun cashmere is beguilingly fabulous on its own. But I've done that and been there, so I decided to alternate it with a strand of black Peruvian alpaca/silk yarn and see what would happen. Whoa nelly! It worked, and how. And here it is: a Four Corners Pussy Cap that's already on its way to its new owner in Utah. (I hear they get a lot of snow there.) This new style of Pussy Cap is so great because it can be worn in so many different ways and each is more funky and cool than the next. Lots more time and lots more yarn, but so worth it. Especially when Lisa's cashmeres are involved.
